Police investigate shots fired near WIU

MACOMB, Ill. (NEWS3) — Macomb Police are investigating a report of shots fired near Western Illinois University’s campus.

WIU officials sent out a campus safety notice Sunday afternoon informing students and staff of an unlawful discharge of a firearm.

Macomb Police said the incident happened early Sunday morning on the 400 block of North Charles Street near Wheeler Street. The department notified the WIU Office of Public Safety of the reported off-campus incident.

Police said there were no injuries.
