MACOMB, Illinois (NEWS3) — Marvel gains big box office numbers while the British Academy Film Awards kick off.

“Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” has become the first film in 2023 to reach over $100 million in one weekend. During its first weekend of release, the Marvel blockbuster soared to more than $225 million opening weekend.

The film has led to many divisive reviews among fans criticizing the highly CGI-used components in the film. But Marvel President Kevin Feige will be counting the dollars as the film continues to dominate the box office in the coming weeks.

The British Academy Film Awards have come and gone. The big winner at the award ceremony was Netflix’s own: “All Quiet on the Western Front.” The film won seven awards, including best film and best director. “Everything Everywhere All at Once” only won one award for best editing at the BAFTAs. Despite the slow weekend for the film, it is nominated for best picture at the Oscars.

Zach Galifinakas has been cast for Disney’s live action adaptation of “Lilo and Stitch.” His role in the film remains unknown, since it is very early on in the filming process.
