WIU to re-open dorms early for students due to weather

MACOMB, Ill. (NEWS3) — Western Illinois University announced Wednesday all residence halls will re-open early due to possible inclement weather this weekend.

WIU officials said move-in will start Friday at 2 p.m., nearly 24 hours ahead of what was originally scheduled.

WIU Housing and Dining Services said dining centers will remain closed on Friday. Corbin-Olson Dining Center will be open for brunch and dinner Saturday, and regular dining center hours for all residence halls will resume Sunday, according to officials.

The announcement comes after WIU officials sent inefficient alerts and failed to open all dorms ahead of a massive blizzard that hit the region after the 2018 Thanksgiving break that stranded students heading back to school.

Move-in for the 2020 spring semester was initially set for Saturday at noon.

The National Weather Service is forecasting sleet, snow and high winds for the Macomb area starting Friday evening through Saturday night.
