Macomb fire chief to retire after 22 years

MACOMB, Ill. (NEWS3) — Macomb Fire Chief J. R. Hyde told NEWS3 he will retire on the first of the new year.

Hyde said he will be moving on to take a local opportunity in the private sector.

Hyde joined the department in 1998 and was appointed fire chief in 2016 after the death of former Chief Andy Taylor.

“It’s been great,” Hyde said. “I’ve learned a lot and met good people. I have nothing but great things to say.”

Macomb Mayor Mike Inman appointed Deputy Chief Rick Driskell as interim fire chief during a city council meeting on Dec. 16.
