SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (NEWS3) — The Illinois Department of Transportation is calling all qualified individuals to apply for the annual “snowbird” program.
According to a press release from the state, IDOT is now hiring temporary snowplow drivers for the upcoming winter season through the program. The drivers, or snowbirds, will work on a full-time and on-call basis and must respond immediately for snow-and-ice removal. The release states this could be at anytime, including nights, weekends and holidays.
To apply, you must:
- Possess a commercial driver’s license
- Submit to a criminal background check
- Take a pre-employment physical, vision screening and drug and alcohol screening
