Gravina, Women’s Basketball Looking to Rebound Vs USI

The Western Illinois Women’s Basketball team is headed down to Evansville, Indiana to take on Division I newcomer, the University of Southern Indiana. Western dropped their season opener on the road against Big 10 foe, Minnesota 75-45 Monday night. The Leathernecks were lead by guard Jada Thorpe, who scored 8 points and grabbed 3 rebounds. Newcomer Zaria Chevre scored 6 points in her Leatherneck debut, adding 8 rebounds and an assist. Junior Alissa Dins scored 6 points, leading the WIU with 12 rebounds, while adding 2 blocks. Western came up short, as they could not get shots to fall. WIU shot just 25% from the field and 22% from beyond the arc.

The Screaming Eagles notched their first win at the Division I level with a win over Oakland City University, 87-39 on Monday night. The Leathernecks will be their first Division I opponent this season. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. tonight inside Screaming Eagles Arena.
