MACOMB, Illinois (NEWS3) — WIU’s Volunteer Week will be held April 17 through April 22. The Office of Student Engagement will celebrate by hosting different events and educational programs throughout the week to show students the importance of giving back to their community.

Monday, April 18 is “Kinder Monday” in partnership with the university counseling center. Volunteers will be handing out candy from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  at the University Union to thank students for giving back to the community.

On Tuesday, April 19, volunteers will work with the university campus to help plant flowers to beautify the Campus Cardinal court outside of Corbin Hall.

On Wednesday, April 20, weather permitting, and in partnership with the Horn Field Campus, volunteers will be cleaning around campus.

Thursday, April 21 is “Throwback Thursday,” a virtual event. Students are encouraged to post pictures or videos of times when they were giving back to their community.

To wrap up volunteering week, on Friday, April 22, WIU’s fraternities and sororities will come together for a street clean-up event on various Macomb streets.

“I hope students get a sense of fulfillment of giving back to a community,” said Kiki Marshall, volunteer programs graduate assistant. “Macomb is such a beautiful place and has done so much for Western and Western just should want to give back to the Macomb community.”
