WIU Football Preps for Showdown with Former Coach

nielsonThe 13th ranked Western Illinois (5-2) football team visits a familiar foe at South Dakota (4-3) this weekend. Current Coyote head coach Bob Nielson was the head man in Macomb for the past three seasons compiling a 16-21 record while winning Missouri Valley Football Conference Coach of the Year in 2015.

Leatherneck head coach Charlie Fisher realizes it’s an emotional game for his players.

“For me, the vibe is whatever motivates you, that’s fine,” Western Illinois head coach Charlie Fisher said. “I have a deep respect for what South Dakota has done, they’re winning close games and are a lot like us. At the end of the day it’s two teams against each other trying to win a football game.”

Kickoff in Vermillion, S.D. from the Dakota Dome is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday.
