Power Outage hits WIU Saturday

Ameren’s Power Outage website reported that 214 customers were without power today for roughly an hour in the 61455 zip code. This power outage did affect Western Illinois University as it was without power from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM. Currently, it isn’t known what caused the power outage. However, there is speculation going around that maybe the winds played a culprit in the outage.

At the time of this post, Tillman Hall’s Personal Weather Station was offline as a result of the power outage. However, the reports received before the outage show winds sustained at 15-20 MPH with gusts up to 35 at times. The National Weather Service observation site at the Macomb Municipal Airport showed stronger winds at the time of the outage with sustained winds up to 35 MPH and gusts up to 40 MPH. So while nothing is confirmed, strong winds is a possible suspect. Winds will continue to be gusty tonight so power outages will still be possible. Make sure to be prepared in case the power goes out.
