Residents are honoring the man behind the city’s name on Wednesday afternoon.

General Alexander Macomb was a general in the War of 1812 and the inspiration behind the city’s name. The 231st birthday party for General Macomb will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at Chandler Park.
There will be children’s activities, a presentation of flags by Boy Scouts Troop 315 and the General Macomb Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will be hosting activities.

The event is free and open to the public.
