Pandemic cancels Macomb Heritage Days

MACOMB Ill., (NEWS3)Another summer-time favorite in the Macomb area is taking a hit due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

City leaders announced Macomb’s 38th annual Heritage Days festival in June is canceled.

Organizers said the outbreak caused growing safety concerns about hosting this year’s events.

“This was not an easy decision as Heritage Days has become a signature event for Macomb and the area over the past 38 years,” organizers said.  “One that annually draws visitors from around the country back to their hometown for reunions and homecomings.”

Organizers said, in the light of the uncertainty of the pandemic, their main focus is the safety and well-being of the community.

“We promise to return next year bigger, stronger and better than ever,” organizers said. “To give the community and visitors the celebration they will certainly need and will have so deservedly earned.”

The four-day tradition was scheduled to take place June 25 through June 28.
