MACOMB, Illinois (NEWS3) — On Monday, April 24, Western Illinois University alums and friends from around the world will come together as one Leatherneck family for the annual Purple & Gold Day Celebration.

“It’s when the Illinois Legislature approved the creation of what would become WIU,” said Carrie Van Vleet, associate director of Alumni Programs.

In addition, to celebrating Leatherneck pride, everyone is encouraged to participate in the Western Challenge, a 24-hour online giving event that allows everyone to support their favorite colleges, departments, programs, teams and causes on campus.

You can support The Western Challenge by making a gift on April 24, spreading the word using the hashtag #LeathernecksGive, and becoming an online advocate to help drive the effort.
