Macomb shooting results in one dead, 10 injured, suspect arrested

MACOMB, IL (WC) – One person is dead and 10 more were injured, including six Western Illinois University students, in a shooting in Macomb early Saturday, March 25.

Macomb Police Department responded to a report of shots fired at a house part at 533 N. Johnson Street around 1:55 a.m. that morning.

Police arrested 23-year-old Donell D. Williams, a former WIU student. He was arraigned Monday on charges of felony possession of drugs and illegal possession of a firearm.

Western Illinois University students received an emergency message later that morning at 3:48 that the shooting had occurred and they should take shelter and stay out of the 500 block of North Johnson Street. Those injured were treated at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, and some were transported to other hospitals for treatment.

The deceased, Jerman Beathea (26), was pronounced dead at the scene from gunshot wounds.

Those who were at the party who may have left personal property at the scene may recover may pick up their belongings at 3 p.m. on March 28 at 533 N. Johnson St. They will need to bring a valid ID and will be asked to describe items.
