MACOMB, Illinois (NEWS3) — “Knock at the Cabin” takes over the box office lead against “Avatar: The Way of Water” in a big opening weekend.

M. Knight Shyamalan’s latest film soared to the top of the box office with a $20 million worldwide opening weekend and surpassed “Avatar: The Way of Water,” which had led the box office for the last two months. “Knock at the Cabin” has already earned the budget it took to make in the first weekend of its release.

Coming off of the mediocre release of Shyamalan’s film “Old,” “Knock at the Cabin” has been a surprising box office favorite during the last couple of weeks in Hollywood. The new film stars Dave Bautista, Jonathan Groff and Harry Potter star Rupert Grint. “Knock at the Cabin” will look to keep the strong weekend numbers, as it enters its third weekend in theaters. You can see “Knock at the Cabin” in the Rialto Cinema in Macomb.

In other movie release news, “Titanic” is re-releasing for its 25th anniversary of the film. James Cameron has decided to re-release his hit film during Valentine’s Day week. The film will be in 3D, and it will be interesting to see how the re-release will affect the box office. Cameron will essentially be fighting his own film, Avatar: The Way of Water in the box office standings. You can see Titanic at the AMC Theater in Galesburg.

AMC is changing its pricing based on where you sit in the theater.

AMC introduced sightline based seating, which will include a $2 upcharge to your ticket if you are sitting in the middle of the theater. Along with an upcharge, you will also have the chance to have a discounted ticket, by sitting in the very front or back of the theater.

This news comes after the resurgence of movie goers coming back to the theater after COVID-19, where AMC lost nearly $4.6 billion dollars during 2020.
