Men’s Basketball Wins Opener, Upsets ISU.

Bloomington, IL: The Western Illinois Men’s Basketball team made the short trip down Illinois State to take on the Redbirds Monday night for their regular season opener. The Leathernecks were able top escape with the 71-68 upset win over ISU due to some late game turnovers by the Redbirds.

The Leathernecks were lead by newcomer Alec Rosner. The transfer from Winona State was lights out, scoring 25 points, while adding 3 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal. Preseason All-League First team selection Trenton Massner also helped pave the way for a WIU victory. The senior guard had 12 points, with 11 assists and 10 boards, notching the first triple-double since 2018 for the Leathernecks

WIU will have it home opener tonight, as they host the Regents from Rockford University. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. inside Western Hall
