Leathernecks Shuts Down the Panthers

CHARLESTON, IL- Western Illinois Leathernecks fought till the end to defeat Eastern Illinois Panthers 1-0 on the road and improve their record to 2-3-3.

The Necks’ had a strong start of the first half as graduate student Amy Andrews opened the score and made it a 1-0 game. That would be her fifth goal of the season. Hana Daoudi was credited with the assist after she passed it to Andrews’ long cross and out wide. Andrews now leads the Summit in goals.

Necks’ goalie Isabel Navas Rodrigouez stood up tall, not allowing a single goal to go past her. This would also be Rodrigouez’s fourth shutout of the season. After this win Rodrigouez is now second in shutouts per game and (.500), second in saves (36), fourth in save percentage (.818) and third in saves per game (4.5) in the Summit League. Rodriguez could be a candidate for Summit player of the week.

This would conclude the non-conference game for the Necks and will begin their Summit League matchups starting with Oral Roberts on Friday, Sept. 23 at John Makenzi Alumni Field. Kickoff would be at 3 p.m.
