Leathernecks tie UW-Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE – The Fighting Leathernecks remain winless following a tie against the Panthers of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Sept. 13.

The ’Necks came into this game 0-3-1 looking for their first win of the season. Western goalie Alex Flowers only allowed one goal and kept his team in the game against UW-Milwaukee and gave them a huge opportunity to win their first game of the season.

Gijs Van Schouten started in net for the second time this season and also allowed only one goal. Jake Immesoete passed the ball to Xavier Brown just outside of the 18 box line and got past goalie Gijs Van Schouten to grab the lead 1-to-0 and gained momentum for the Leathernecks.

That lead wouldn’t last long as Gabe Anguil tied the game for the Panthers 1-to-1. Shots on goal was favored by the Panthers 7-to-5 regular shots was 21-to-10 favored by the Panthers.

There were 34 fouls in the game, 17 from each opponent.

The Leathernecks will return back to Macomb for a long home stand of five straight home games. Two of those games will be against Summit League opponents. The homestand will begin with a game against Northern Illinois on Family Day at 1 p.m. on Saturday,  Sept. 17 at John Makenzie Alumni Field.
