MACOMB, Illinois (NEWS3 )- The last time Western Illinois University was the host of the Men’s Soccer Summit League Championship was almost a decade ago.
Summit League spokesman Ryan Powell said this year will be the first that the championships will be back in Macomb since 2004. The league soccer championships were also held in Macomb in 1995 and 2000.
The league’s top four teams make it to the championship. Powell said WIU shared the regular season championship with Oral Roberts in 2019 and won the head-to-head tie breaker.
“So they earned the right to host the 2021 championship coming up in mid-November in Macomb,” Powell said.
Powell said the league is excited to be playing in Macomb.
“We will have some fun,” Powell said. “It should be good soccer. There are good teams in the Summit (League) right now and we are excited to come to Macomb.”
The Men’s Soccer Summit League Championship will be held on Nov. 11-13. Games are streamed online or go to the Summit League website.
