MACOMB, Illinois (NEWS3) – The Western Illinois University Art Gallery is hosting the exhibit “Navigating Borders” by artist Jason Ackman through the month of October.
A reception was held Tuesday, Oct. 26. Ackman is a sculptor currently living with his wife and two daughters in Frederick, Illinois. He is a Western Illinois University alum who primarily uses reclaimed building materials for his sculptural works. Ackman said the exhibit has five pieces.
“All of them are primarily made from reclaimed lumber and they represent or speak to the idea of the borders that are in our lives that we either put up ourselves or stuff that’s been put in front of us,” Ackman said. “It’s really exciting to be able to have my work here since I’ve gone to school here. I know a lot of the faculty here and am still good friends with many of them.”
“Navigating Borders” is on display at the art gallery until Oct. 29. Admission is open free to the public. Vaccinations are expected and masks are required for entry.
