MACOMB, Illinois (NEWS3) – Tony Tate is the first Western Illinois football player to have his own shoe brand.
Tate is partnering with CoBlxck, a black-owned business that carries men’s and women’s clothing, shoes, accessories and skincare and beauty products. The shoe design came about from Tate’s different inspiration.
“Actually it was spontaneous,” Tate said.
Tate, a wide receiver, said shoe brand owner Reshaud Henry approached him about the idea.
“He just has a really creative mind and had a vision and he told me to send some shoes inspiration and I did,” Tate said. “One day he said these are going to be Turbo Tate.”
Tate said he provided the inspiration and Henry created the brand. Tate said he is planning more than one shoe line and other products to come.
“We definitely have planned for more things to come out,” he said. “There’s going to be a Turbo Tate 2 coming out pretty soon that might have a different name, but as of right now we just have Turbo Tate 1s.”
