Multicultural Center to host event on mental health awareness

MACOMB, Illinois – The Western Illinois University Counseling Center (UCC) will host a Fresh Check Day for WIU students from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 23, on the Multicultural Center lawn.

The annual event is held as a check-in with college students regarding mental health awareness and suicide prevention. The event include food, prizes and giveaways along with interactive activities that will feature mental health topics.

Fresh Check Day was founded by the Jordan “Matthew” Porco Memorial Foundation. The mission of the Foundation is to prevent suicide in the college and college entry population, in the name and spirit of Jordan Matthew Porco whodied by suicide in 2011.
