MACOMB, Illinois – Western Illinois University is mourning the loss of their live mascot.

On Jan. 25, Col. Rock III, also known as “Rocky,” died.

Rocky became the third live bulldog mascot in the school’s history in May of 2010, after the retirement of Col. Rock II in 1973.

In May of 2018, Rocky retired following eight years of barks, tricks and school spirit. But Rocky’s retirement didn’t stop his public appearances on campus and in the community.

Rocky lived 10 years. Now, Col. Rock IV, known as “Ray,” continues the legacy Rocky left behind. Ray became the fourth official live mascot in June 2018.
