KNOX CO., Ill (NEWS3) — A west-central Illinois county is reporting a jump in coronavirus cases Friday.
Knox County Health Department is reporting the following nine new cases of COVID-19:
- Female in her 70s
- Male in his 40s
- Female under 10
- Male in his 30s
- Female in her 60s
- Female in her 20s
- 2 males in their 50s
- Male in his 30s
This brings Knox County’s total number of cases to 63 and 948 tests conducted. The county reported two new cases Thursday, five cases Wednesday and a day of zero cases Tuesday. Officials said five cases were confirmed Monday and three cases Saturday.
Public health officials said they are working to identify and monitor individuals who were in direct contact with these residents in an effort to reduce the risk of additional transmission.
“The number of tests and positive COVID cases in Knox County have grown over the past couple of
weeks and was expected as the County’s capacity to test individuals has increased,” health officials said. “We anticipate those numbers will grow as more people are tested. If individuals have COVID symptoms, they can get tested, with or without a doctor’s order.”
Knox County launched a curbside coronavirus testing site last week for the public at the Knox Community Health Center on W. Fremont St. in Galesburg. Appointments can only be arranged Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Anyone with symptoms of COVID-19 or wish to be tested can schedule an appointment by calling the health center at 309-344-2225.
The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 73,760 total coronavirus cases Friday and 3,241 deaths. The state saw 2,887 new cases and 130 additional deaths Friday.
