Galesburg Police: Woman dies after being stabbed

GALESBURG, Ill. (NEWS3) — A woman is dead after police said she was stabbed by a Galesburg woman early Saturday morning.

Galesburg Police Chief Russell Idle said police responded to the 300 block of Maple Avenue just before 2:30 a.m. for a medical call.

Once on scene, police were told a woman, 21-year-old Shamyra Barber, was stabbed and taken to Galesburg Cottage Hospital by car.

Idle said police then responded to the hospital where Barber later died due to her injuries.

After investigating, police arrested Shamere Kimble, 28, of Galesburg for aggravated battery and murder.
