MACOMB, Ill. (NEWS3) — Weeks after Western Illinois University decided to not renew a contract with head men’s basketball coach Billy Wright, reports say the team has a new coach.
According to Jeff Goodman, basketball analyst for Stadium, tweeted Wednesday afternoon Minnesota men’s basketball assistant coach Rob Jeter will be the next men’s basketball coach at WIU.

Jeter played at University of Wisconsin-Platteville under Bo Ryan from 1987 to 1991.
He’s held a handful of assistant coaching jobs at UW-Platteville (1994-1998), Marquette (1998-1999), UW-Milwaukee (1999-2001), UW-Madison (2001-2005), University of Nevada at Las Vegas (2016-2018) and Minnesota (2018-2020).
Jeter earned his first head coaching job in 2005 when he took over for Bruce Pearl at UW-Milwaukee. He guided the Panthers to two Horizon League regular season championships and two NCAA Tournament appearances as the conference tournament champions. Jeter was named the Horizon League Coach of the Year in 2011, but fired five years later.
Jeter, 50, went 184-170 during his 11 seasons at Milwaukee.
The Western Illinois University Athletic Department has not released any information to NEWS3 about Jeter’s hiring.
The WIU men’s basketball team had a record of 53-115 in six seasons under Wright.
