WIU warns of fraudulent text messages

MACOMB, Ill. (NEWS3) — A scam involving fraudulent text messages is circulating around the Western Illinois University campus.

WIU University Technology staff said the messages appear to be sent by a college supervisor or colleague. The scam attempts to trick employees into transferring money or sending sensitive information.

U-Tech said people should check that messages come from a trusted contact before making purchases or giving out personal data. If any message appears to be suspicious, do not reply.
