Local park district cancels events out of precaution

MACOMB Ill., (NEWS3) — The Macomb Park District responds to COVID-19 by suspending all activities till further notice.

In order to protect the health and safety of their staff, The Macomb Park District announced that all activities will be suspended.

Executive Director Rachel Lenz sent out an email regarding the updated guidelines by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)  and how it will affect the Macomb Park District.  

“All Group Programming classes, activities and events hosted by the Macomb Park District are suspended until further notice.” Lenz said. “Park District staff will be working to reach out to those affected in the coming days. 

Macomb Park District said all facility rentals are canceled through March 30 and park district leadership will evaluate rentals in April based on the developing information about COVID-19. 

“While our parks will remain open,” Lenz said. “Restroom facilities will remain closed until further notice. Patrons are encouraged to consider social distancing and good hygiene while using our parks and trails.”

Lenz said that while they are disappointed to have to cancel programming and restrict facilities use temporarily, they hope the early response to COVID-19 will help to limit its impact and allow them to get back to running soon.
