McDonough Co. Sheriff suspends all visitors due to COVID-19

MCDONOUGH, CO. (NEWS3) — The McDonough County Sheriff’s Department is suspending all visitations to the correctional facility due to the coronavirus.

Sheriff Nick Petitgout said this suspension begins Sunday, March 15 through April 4.

Petitgout said the suspension is only for precautionary purposes only. Currently, there are no known cases of COVID-19 at the facility.

All volunteer managed programs will also be cancelled indefinitely.

The sheriff’s department is also asking the public to limit their interaction in the lobby of the McDonough County Sheriff’s Office. Instead, Petitgout said the public should call the department first and a deputy will return your phone call.

This suspension comes one day after Governor Pritzker announced all Illinois schools will close for two weeks due to the outbreak.
