WIU parts ways with men’s basketball head coach

MACOMB, Ill. (NEWS3) — Western Illinois University athletics department announced they will not renew the contract of head men’s basketball coach Billy Wright.

“We want to thank Billy for his commitment and service to our men’s basketball program and the University,” Director of Athletics Danielle Surprenant said. “We appreciate his contributions over the last six seasons and wish him well in his feature endeavors.”

Wright became head coach in April 2014 and went 53-115 during his time with the program. He was previously the assistant and associate head coach from 2008 through the 2013 season.

The department said a national search for the next head men’s basketball coach begins immediately.
