Macomb Fire receives fire prevention grant to help teach safety

MACOMB, Ill. (NEWS3) – Macomb Fire Department received a grant to help continue fire prevention efforts in the community.

Interim Fire Chief Rick Driskell announced a $2,350 fire prevention grant from FM Global, one of the world’s largest commercial property insurers.

FM Global officials presented the award to the department at the Macomb Fire Station Monday. Driskell said the award will be used to assist with fire prevention activities in the community to help educate the community and reduce the number of fires.

Macomb Fire officials said they will purchase an outfit for Macomb Fire’s “Sparky the Fire Dog,” who is a mascot the department uses during school assemblies and fire department tours about fire prevention.

This is the first time the department received a fire prevention grant from FM Global.
