Hundreds to brave cold waters in Polar Plunge Saturday

MACOMB, Ill. (NEWS3) — Hundreds of people will take a leap into frigid waters for the 5th annual Macomb Polar Plunge this weekend to benefit Special Olympics.

The plunge will take place Saturday in the corner of Q-Lot outside of Western Hall in a large swimming pool. Plunger registration will begin at 4 P.M. with the plunge kicking off at 5 P.M.

Participants had to raise $100 in donations from friends, family and co-workers in exchange for jumping into the icy waters.

Organizers said plungers will receive incentive prizes based on the amount of money they raised. By raising the minimum of $100, plungers will receive an official plunge hooded sweatshirt. Sweatshirts will be available on a first come, first serve basis the day of the plunge. Organizers said other prizes are awarded at the $250, $500 and $1,000 levels.
