WIU to host international culture and education event

MACOMB, Ill (NEWS3) — A popular event showcasing international cultures returns to Western Illinois Univerisity at the end of February.

WIU officials released the 47th annual International Bazaar offers food, music and traditional clothing from around the world.

The event will take place Saturday, Feb. 29 from 5 p.m. -10 p.m. in the University Grand Ballroom. There is an admission fee to the event; $3 for WIU students, $6 for non-students; $2 for children between the ages of 5 and 12 and free admission for ages 4 and younger.

There will be a kids craft corner and an international marketplace, selling souvenirs and goods from across the world open until 8 p.m.

Brazil, China, Egypt, Ghana, India, Myanmar, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine, Puerto Rico and Saudi Arabia are the cultures represented in this year’s International Bazaar. Samples of food from different countries will be available to purchase starting from $1-2.50 each.

“I believe the bazaar is a wonderful display of the cultural diversity of WIU. The Bazaar provides students the opportunity to celebrate and share their cultures and heritage,” Alecsus Sebben said, International Friendship Club graduate advisor and graduate student in WIU’s College Student Personnel program.
