MACOMB, Ill. (NEWS3) — Western Illinois University Interim President Martin Abraham will continue to serve in his current position following a board of trustees meeting Friday morning.
The board voted to hire a presidential search firm to conduct a national search for the 12th president of WIU.
Trustees Kisha Lang, Doug Shaw, Greg Aguilar and Justin Brown voted against appointing Abraham as president. Board chair Polly Radosh and trustees Carin Stutz, Erik Dolieslager and Patrick Twomey voted in favor of appointing Abraham as president.
“We have greatly appreciated Dr. Abraham’s efforts as acting and interim president, and we look forward to a continued working relationship,” Radosh said.
Abraham was initially hired as provost but took on the role of acting president in July after former President Jack Thomas stepped down in June. The board appointed Abraham as interim president in October.
WIU officials said a search committee of faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members from Macomb and the Quad Cities will review and interview interested search firms.
Abraham will continue to serve as interim president at least through June 2020. He can apply for the position of president.
