Macomb man drives into WIU grand entrance sign

MACOMB, Ill. (NEWS3) — The Western Illinois University grand entrance sign is missing a handful of letters after Illinois State Police said a Macomb man drove into the sign.
ISP said it happened Thursday night around 10:30 p.m. at the corner of University Drive and Lafayette Street.
ISP District 14 Sgt. Bryan Clauson said 35-year-old Aaron Holsinger of Macomb was driving south on U.S. 67, drove off the roadway and into the ditch. Holsinger struck another sign before running into WIU’s grand entrance.
Clauson said Holsinger was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and improper lane usage. Holsinger was taken to McDonough District Hospital out of precaution and was later released.
Holsinger is pending a court appearance.
Executive Director of University Relations, Darcie Shinberger, told NEWS3 the school is waiting to hear from the sign company on how much the damage will cost.
