Extra sparkle coming to Dickens on the Square

MACOMB, Ill. (NEWS3) – The Western Illinois University Department of Theatre and Dance is partnering with the city of Macomb’s Downtown Development office to bring an addition to this year’s Dickens on the Square holiday celebration.

This year’s Dickens on the Square theme “A Magical Holiday” and will be enhanced by additional lighting.

WIU Assistant Professor of Lighting Design, Josh Wroblewski, and some of his students will design a lighting concept for the historic McDonough County Courthouse.

The design will be unveiled on Dec. 6 starting at 6 p.m.

The lights will change every half hour to music.

The project is part of a competition, hosted by SGM Lighting, Inc., to light and execute a design on an exterior of a building in town.

Photos of the designs will be submitted in hopes to win lighting equipment for the University.

“The Department of Theatre and Dance continually works to develop practical applications through research and demonstration of new technologies that positively affect the student and the community,” said WIU Department of Theatre and Dance Chair Tammy Killian. “Through this opportunity, our students will experience firsthand the power of engaging the community with their art. Thank you to all who are involved.”
