WIU interim president addresses reported racist sign

MACOMB, Ill. (NEWS3) — Western Illinois University Interim President Martin Abraham addressed the university community in an email Tuesday regarding a recent incident.

According to Abraham, a sign was posted in a computer lab on campus that had “racist implications.” He said University Technology and the Office of Public Safety are investigating the act, and the university will discipline the individual(s) involved.

“Prejudice, bigotry and harassment are not tolerated and have no place here,” Abraham said in the email.

The Division of Student Services and the University Counseling Center is hosting an open forum for the campus community Tuesday at 5 p.m. in the University Grand Ballroom.
