ISP squad car hit by vehicle in Henry County

HENRY COUNTY, Ill. (NEWS3) — An Illinois State Trooper squad car was struck by a vehicle on the side of the road in Henry County.

At 9:30 a.m. Thursday, an ISP trooper was handling a crash on I-74 west, mile marker 17, when David L. Norberg, 55, of Osco, Ill., failed to move over and struck the squad car. The trooper had his emergency lights activated.

The incident caused minor damages to both vehicles and no injuries were reported.

Norberg was charged with failure to move over for a stationary emergency vehicle.

According to ISP, 24 squad cars have been struck this year as a result of drivers not moving over or slowing down. Two troopers were killed this year by drivers violating the Move Over Law.

ISP urges motorists to follow the law and to always be on the lookout for emergency lights. They said to be prepared for lane changes and stopped traffic when emergency vehicles are present.
