Woman hits inmate in jail after taking police on pursuit

MACOMB, Ill. (NEWS3) — Macomb Police arrested a woman after a short pursuit on Saturday night.

Police received a report for a car that nearly hit a person while parked in the middle of East Murray Street. The caller believed the driver was intoxicated.

Police said once they arrived, the driver drove off from East Murray Street to North Randolph Street, and then started driving in the wrong direction on North Lafayette Street. Officers stopped the car on University Drive.

Police said Ariel Harrison, 30, of Macomb, refused to get out the car and tried pushing officers. Officers were eventually able to arrest her.

After she arrived in the McDonough County Jail, officers said Harrison hit another inmate.

Harrison was charged with driving under the influence, violation of traffic control, improper lane usage, aggravated battery, resisting a peace officer and aggravated fleeing.

She remains in jail with a bond set at $50,000.
