Macomb man arrested after stabbing girlfriend

MACOMB, Ill. (NEWS3) — A Macomb man stabbed his girlfriend during a domestic dispute on Oct. 21.

At approximately 12:44 a.m., Macomb Police Department said they were dispatched to 1662 E. Wheeler Circle in reference to a female requesting police assistance. Upon arrival, the victim said she was stabbed in the left leg by her boyfriend, John Stokes at their home.

After investigating the incident, it was learned that Stokes had choked the female, causing scrapes and abrasions to her neck. Stokes then stabbed the victim in the leg one time with a large kitchen knife. She fled the scene and had a neighbor contact police.

Police said she was transported to McDonough District Hospital where she was treated and later released. Stokes was charged with Aggravated Domestic Battery, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Resisting a Police Officer. He is currently lodged at the McDonough County Jail with bail set at $25,000.
