MACOMB, Ill. (NEWS3) – Western Illinois University will be celebrating its 30th annual Take Back the Night (TBTN) event next week.
On Thursday, Oct. 24, a resource fair kicks off the event at 6:30 p.m. in the Multicultural Center followed by the march from Sherman Hall to Chandler Park.
The annual march and rally is held to increase awareness of — and seek an end to – sexual assault, dating and domestic violence, stalking and other forms of sexual and power-based interpersonal violence, as well as to remember and honor victims and survivors.
Lauren Hoover is the TBTN planning committee chair and a second-year graduate student in the Women’s Center in the Multicultural Center, and she said contributing to the event is very fulfilling.
“We are so proud to carry on this legacy event into its 30th year,” Hoover said. “We hope this event inspires action in all of us to support and believe survivors, as well as ending interpersonal violence.”
TBTN is part of Take Back the Week, which begins Monday, Oct. 21 and consists of events on campus leading up to Thursday night.
