Hancock County Jail guard arrested for sexual misconduct

HANCOCK COUNTY, Ill. (NEWS3) — A Hancock County Jail employee was arrested on Friday for sexual misconduct with a female inmate.

According to Hancock County Sheriff Scott Bentzinger, the Illinois State Police conducted an investigation of Cory D. Hamelton, 35, of Carthage, for sexual misconduct.

The Sheriff said he requested ISP to conduct an investigation into the allegations of custodial sexual misconduct between Hamelton and the inmate.

Bentzinger said Hamelton was a correctional officer at the jail and was arrested by Illinois State Police Agents on Friday.

Bail was set at $100,000. Hamelton currently remains lodged in the McDonough County Jail. He is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 24.
