Local organizations give back for annual service day

MACOMB, Ill. (NEWS3) — The City of Macomb looks even more beautiful after dozens of volunteer groups spent their Saturday tidying up the area.

Western Illinois University’s College of Fine Arts and Communications were one of the groups involved with the service day known as ForMacomb.

The COFAC group focused on cleaning the sidewalks and roads at WIU.

Acting WIU President Dr. Martin Abraham said an event like this will help build the relationship between the community and the university.

“The intent is really to provide opportunities for the people in the area to come out and do community service and to do some tasks that need to get done,” Abraham said. “The event is really all about supporting the community and the individuals who live here.”

WIU student Morgan Johnson was one of the 50 students who participated in the cleanup. “The community gives so much to our college and it’s really important to give back,” Johnson said.

Volunteers of the cleanup expect to continue the tradition of ForMacomb for next year in early fall.
