WIU volleyball goes 0-3 in final non-conference tournament

COOKEVILLE, Tn. (NEWS3) — The Western Illinois University volleyball team spent their final non-conference tournament in Cookeville, Tennessee this weekend in the Golden Eagle Invitational.

The Leathernecks (3-10) fell in all three games against Tennessee Tech, Middle Tennessee State and Southern Illinois.

During WIU’s first match against host, Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles, on Friday, the women would loss after five sets.

The Leathernecks then took on the MTSU Blue Raiders in the second match on Saturday, losing after four sets.

The final match of the weekend against the SIU Salukis would be a third loss for the Leathernecks during the tournament.

WIU’s Mariah Mitchell had a total of 20 kills throughout the day on Saturday.

The Leathernecks start conference play on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Indiana against Purdue Fort Wayne.
