DAYTON, OH (NEWS3) — The Western Illinois women’s volleyball team is now 3-7 on the season after getting swept over the weekend by all three opponents in the Wright State Invitational in Dayton, Ohio.
WIU had 37 kills in the first match against the Toledo Rockets on Friday. The Leathernecks gave up 49 kills and lost to the Rockets 3-0. During the match the Leathernecks recorded three blocks. In three previous matches, WIU averaged 7.3 blocks per match.
The Leathernecks took on the Wright State Raiders in a second match on Saturday. WIU only had a 2.8 percent hitting average the entire match, as the Raiders swept the Leathernecks 3-0. WIU recorded a season-low of only 20 kills in the match.
Indiana State, which came into its match against WIU winless, beat the Leathernecks in three sets.
WIU freshman outside hitter Aubrey Putman made the all-tournament team after she had 20 kills and 25 digs over the three matches.
WIU will look to right the ship next weekend at the Tennessee Tech Tournament in Cookeville, Tennessee.
