UWM defeats WIU women’s soccer

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (NEWS3) — The Western Illinois University women’s soccer team failed to generate any offense in a Thursday night match up against the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

The first half of the game was a defensive showcase as neither team managed to score and WIU senior goalkeeper Ines Palmeiro Herrera notched two saves against the Panthers’ offense. The senior now sits at 204 career saves after Thursday’s game.

UWM (6-1-0) was off to a hot start scoring two goals within the first 10 minutes of the second half.  Sophomores Julia Barajas (46′) and Taylor Hattori (51′) tallied the first two scores for Milwaukee.

Milwaukee would tally on one more goal to make the final score 3-0.

Western Illinois’ (2-3-1) next two games will be at home on Friday, Sept. 20, against Drake University and Sunday, Sept. 22, against the University of Northern Iowa
