Leathernecks fail to score against Huskies

MACOMB, Ill. (NEWS3) — The Western Illinois women’s soccer team played a tight defensive game against Northern Illinois University on Sunday afternoon.

The Leathernecks couldn’t find the back of the net late in the game to tie things up, and fell to the Huskies 1-0.

NIU forward Julia Neary netted the game’s only goal in the 61st minute to give the Huskies (1-2-1) the lead.

Western Illinois senior goalkeeper, Ines Palmiero Herrera recorded her 200th career save as a Leatherneck during the game. This save makes her the fifth all-time in program history in saves.

WIU (2-2-1) recorded eleven shots on goal in the second half.

The Leathernecks will hit the road to play the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers at 7 p.m. Thursday.
