MACOMB, Ill (NEWS3) — Western Illinois University’s School of Agriculture is partnering with the University Union Board to host their second annual “Food, Family, Farming, Football BBQ” event.
It will be held on Sept. 14 in WIU’s Q-Lot, off of University Drive, during the tailgate. That afternoon, the WIU Leathernecks football team will play Montana State University. Kick off is set for 3 p.m.
This ribs and brisket competition is for teams using a wood, charcoal, electric, or propane smoker.
There is also a student division this year.
Tickets may be purchased for guests to taste and sample ribs and brisket. Then those participating can vote for the best team.
A panel of judges will select the grand prize winners.
Tasting tickets are available for 2 for $5 or 1 for $3.
Tickets for the football game is $10 or free with a WIU student ID.
Event T-shirts will also be available for purchase.
Last year the competition sold 2,000 tasting tickets and 600 T-shirts.
This year’s event is sponsored by Smithfield, Sodexo, Citizens Bank, a division of Morton Community Bank, Compeer Financial, the McDonough County Farm Bureau and the Hancock County Beef Association.
