MACOMB, Ill. (NEWS3) — Hot air balloons will return to the sky in Macomb next weekend.Pilots will come from across the Midwest to compete in multiple events and participate in the popular balloon-glow event Sept. 6 and 7.
For 33 years this event has brought hundreds of visitors to the area for the free entertainment. Food vendors will also be on site.
This year’s rally will be a Steampunk theme.
Visitors will then be able to walk around Vince Grady Field at Western Illinois University Saturday night during the glow to see the balloons up close.
The WIU’s Jazz Studio Orchestra will perform Friday evening from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m with the first balloon flight to take place at 6 p.m.
Saturday morning the balloon flight will start at 6:45 a.m. with another flight to take off at 6 p.m and the balloon glow to follow at 7:30 p.m.
There will be live music at Vince Grady Field Saturday night from 6 until 9 p.m. with “Jera and the Absoluts.”
All flights are weather permitting.
Free parking is available in the Q-Lot across from Vince Grady Field.
