Troopers to dress as construction workers, enforce speed limit in I-74 work zone

MOLINE, Illinois (NEWS3) – Illinois State Troopers will dress as construction workers to enforce the speed limit in the I-74 work zone.

Troopers will “blend in with I-74 construction workers while looking for speeders, distracted drivers, and other violations that pose a threat to work zones,” a statement from ISP reads.

The work zone speed limit on I-74 is 55 mph as the project to widen the freeway and build a new Mississippi River bridge continues.

“We ask motorists to drive with caution and slow down,” Illinois Department of Transportation Construction Field Engineer Ryan Hippen said in a statement, “Construction crews are working all along the interstate and we want them to get home to their families.”

Within two hours on Monday, troopers conducted 10 traffic stops for speeding and other violations.
