Football season is just around the corner with the conclusion of the 2019 NFL Draft.
Last week fans watched as their favorite teams selected the next generation of potential stars. Western Illinois had reason to celebrate as a WIU football player was selected in the draft for the 34th time in history and the first time since linebacker Jason Williams was selected in 2009.
In the third round, the Kansas City Chiefs selected defensive tackle Khalen Saunders 84th overall. Saunders has been making a splash this offseason participating in the Senior Bowl and going viral for his impressive backflip.
Saunders isn’t the only Leatherneck getting an NFL opportunity as Steve McShane, Quentin Moon, and Sean McGuire have been invited to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Chicago Bears, and Minnesota Vikings rookie mini-camps, respectively.
